The hardware available on our aluminium bi-folding doors has been designed with aesthetics and functionality in mind and the final door solution reflect this. Please note that our D handle is only available in black matching the hinges.

The standard glass unit used in our aluminium bi-folding door is 28mm in depth and is comprised of 4mm toughened clear glass to the outside, a warm edge spacer bar and 4mm toughened clear Low E glass on the inside.

Warm edge spacer bars insulate the edges of a sealed glass unit and separate the panes of glass. Traditionally, spacer bars were made of aluminium, however the warm edge spacer bar used in our glass units is an extruded PVC material specifically designed to reduce transference of heat between the panes of glass keeping more heat inside the property. The spacer bar is available in 3 different colours; grey, black and white.

Performance

Weather Performance

Our bi-folding door system utilises the latest polyamide thermal break technology creating a barrier between the cold outside and warm inside. Bi fold doors also come with multiple rubber seals and draught excluders helping to ensure that nothing, but sunlight passes through the doors. The door has been tested to 750Pa (approximately 75mph wind speed) with no water leaks and minimal air leakage.

Energy Rating

Each doorset carries 28mm double glazed argon-filled units incorporating soft coat toughened safety glass as standard, which naturally ensures that only a limited amount of heat escapes through the glass. With a suitable triple-glazed unit our bi-fold doors can achieve u-values as low as 1.4W/m²K, similar to our French and patio door ranges.

Guarantee

With all Quickslide aluminium bi-folding doors, there is a 10-year manufacturing guarantee as standard. We make every effort to ensure a high quality product but having a 10-year guarantee offers peace of mind for years to come. Download our guarantee PDF or speak to one of our product experts to find out more.

Security

One of the most important considerations when buying new windows and doors is security. Rest assured that our aluminium bi-folding doors have some of the most effective locking systems available on modern bi-folding doors. Our PAS24:2016 upgrade includes a large range of enhanced features such as anti-lift blocks and high security cylinders to truly safeguard your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bi-fold doors are suitable for any home as they offer the greatest choice of width and height flexibility; a two-panel version can even replace a French door. With bi-folding doors you’ll naturally increase the brightness of your living space and the added wow factor may even increase the value of your home. Generally, bi-fold doors are a great idea. The only time you may want to think twice before choosing bi-fold doors is for period homes, where traditional and classical products such as a French door may be a more suitable option. Having said that, traditional colour options allow you to add an element of tradition to the doors.

The increase in popularity and availability means that bi-fold doors have become a lot more affordable, even for quality systems such as the Quickslide bi-fold door. Most suppliers will offer a fixed panel price to make the pricing as easy to follow as possible. Generally, you will be able to get a classic 3-panel door set for less than £3,000 (supply only).

No. We don’t have any standard door sizes. Every door opening varies in size and we therefore make every bi-fold door to the measurements supplied by you. That also means you can add your own finishing touches such as colour, hardware, glass and integral blinds to the doors to create a solution unique to you.

You can have any colour you can possibly think of on our bi-fold doors. We stock white and grey profile and are therefore able to offer a speedy turnaround on these two colour options, but if time isn’t of the essence then you have the option of choosing blue, green, pink or any other colour you’d like. For a premium personal touch you can even choose one of our textured finishes, these include shimmer options such as the popular ‘silver’ finish.

Our choice is always for aluminium, a material that simply provides the best torsional rigidity with the slimmest sections. Why is this important? Although bi-fold doors are chosen for their effect when open, the fact is that the British weather dictates that they will spend a lot of time closed too. And bi-fold doors by their nature use more profile in their manufacture so the slimmer the section, the less intrusive will the frames be when they are closed. Aluminium also offers the strength to comfortably carry large panels as they swing open and slide back and forth.

It really comes down to the opening and your preference. If you want a spectacular uninterrupted opening on to a fine patio and sculpted gardens then you should consider a bi-folding door. A great choice for great-uninterrupted views all year round is sliding doors, because they use more glass and less frame and considering the British summer weather the doors will spend just as many days closed as open.

The choice is yours. When you submit your enquiry you can request for the bi-fold doors to slide to the left or right and open inwards or outwards. Your decision comes down to where you’ve got room for the panels to open. In most cases, people choose for the doors to open outwards, but if you’ve got a small patio space and wish to utilise all of it you have the option for the doors to open inwards.

Yes we manufacture all our bi-fold doors in-house at our manufacturing facility in Brighouse, Yorkshire. We have a factory dedicated to aluminium and as aluminium bi-folding and sliding doors continue to increase in popularity we have introduced an aluminium window range for customers wanting their windows and doors to match.

When you have large glass units like the ones used on bi-fold doors the chances are some heat will escape through the glass. However, here at Quickslide our bi-fold doors come with an argon gas-filled double glazed unit as standard to increase the energy efficiency of the doors. As standard the doors can achieve a u-value of 1.6W/m2K and with a triple glazed glass unit the doors can achieve a superb u-value of 1.4W/m2K. With the right glass, bi-fold doors are no less energy efficient than other glazing products.

Yes, we offer different threshold options including a low threshold and a low threshold with ramps, which helps to create a seamless transition between the indoors and outdoors. With the addition of the ramps the threshold will comply with Part M of the Building Regulation (DV174).

The door configurations available depend on the size of your aperture. Due to the flexibility of the panel sizes, you will often have a range of configurations to choose from. Our door configurations can be found under the ‘styles’ tab on the aluminium bi-fold doors page.

A traffic door is a door, which can be operated independently from the rest of the panels. With a traffic door you can use your bi-fold door as a quick and easy entry and exit. Only door-sets with an odd number of panels will come with a traffic door. On the traffic door you will also get a levered handle with a high security ATK cylinder as standard.

At Quickslide we often get questions surrounding security on bi-fold doors; homeowners tend to worry more due to the large opening area but with our comprehensive PAS24 security upgrade that really is not an issue, with the doors becoming as secure as is possible. With the upgrade your doors will feature laminated glass, making it near impossible to break through. On doors with a levered handle, you will get a high security snap, pick and drill resistant ATK cylinder. Great strides continue to be made in the hardware – the most crucial element in any bi-fold, and with hardware supplier Caldwell, we’re able to offer the most secure bi-fold door.

The minimum and maximum sizes for bi-fold doors come down to our panel size restrictions. The minimum panel width is 550mm and maximum width is 1200mm. Minimum height is 1200mm for a bi-fold window and if a levered handle is required it is 1750mm. Maximum bi-fold door height is 2500mm and the overall maximum width of a complete door-set is 6000mm.

Our aluminium bi-fold doors have a profile depth of only 70mm, matching the profile depth found on our aluminium casement windows. The doors come with meeting stiles with a glass to glass sight-line of just 132mm.

You can get an instant price for a set of supply only bi-fold doors here on our website. If you require a full service including survey and installation, you can enquire a price via one of our stockists.
