Heritage Sash Window Case Study in Yorkshire | Quickslide

Preserving Period Character with Heritage Sash Windows

Info

When Yorkshire-based property renovator Jamie took on his latest project, the goal was simple but important: bring a tired home up to modern standards without losing an ounce of its period character. The original timber single-glazed windows carried a lot of character, but they were freezing cold in winter, stifling hot in summer, and a good number of them wouldn’t open at all. Living locally, Jamie and his wife found Quickslide through their website, were invited along to their showroom, and the rest followed from there.

Description

For Jamie, the brief was all about keeping the home true to its original character while replacing the windows. “We loved the look of the existing windows, so whatever we put in had to feel right for the house,” he said.

The couple looked at several companies before settling on Quickslide, and one thing made the difference. “The other companies just didn’t stand out, and none of them could show us work on a house like ours,” Jamie explained. “What won us over was the proof. The case studies, the previous projects, the imagery. We could actually see the windows doing the job on real homes.” A visit to Quickslide’s extensive showroom, with the full range out on display, settled it.

As for who was steering the decisions? “My wife chose everything,” Jamie admitted. “I just paid.”

Together they specified Quickslide’s Legacy uPVC sliding sash windows right across the property: 11 arched windows and 14 standard sliding sashes, in a mix of agate grey and white. To preserve the home’s authentic character, the windows were finished with heritage detailing throughout, including a deep bottom rail, slim midrail, a single vertical glazing bar, run-through sash horns and mechanical joints, all paired with heritage hardware. The boldest change was the colour, replacing the old painted white timber with a smart agate grey finish.

The project ran smoothly from first enquiry to final installation. Jamie first got in touch in July 2025, the survey took place in August, and the new windows were installed in October.

“The whole process was easy and very natural, with no pressure at all,” Jamie said. His advice to anyone considering a similar project? “Speak to the team and go and have a look around the showroom. Would I recommend them? Yes, absolutely.”

For Jamie, the result was exactly what he had hoped for: a warmer, more practical home that stays true to its original character.
